ALOTAU – The recent eviction exercise at Rabaraba Compound, behind Eliata, has left several families stranded after a court ruling confirmed that the land belongs to PNG Lands.
The land issue was contested in court, and PNG Lands won the case, affirming their ownership. Following this decision, the developer issued multiple eviction notices to residents over the past weeks.
While some residents complied and relocated voluntarily, others remained on the property. As a result, they were caught up in what has been described as a rushed eviction, leaving many without shelter.
Families left stranded overnight were provided temporary accommodation at Goilanai School hall over the weekend. This arrangement was organized by the Mayor to ensure families have a safe place while they find their way home.
The Office of the Member for Alotau, Ricky Morris, also stepped in to provide food assistance to those affected by the eviction, supporting families during this difficult time.
Community members and authorities continue to work together to assist the displaced residents as they plan their next steps.
This arrangement is to help the stranded family as they find way home..
